PASTOR
KEVIN L. SCOTT
Pastor
Kevin L. Scott, the son of Johncie and the late
Collins H. Love, was born in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. He is the
second eldest of five brothers and one sister. During his youth,
there was a tremendous Pentecostal move of God throughout the city
in various churches; including, Baptist, Methodist, and Holiness.
After receiving a witness from a friend on Saturday night, he accepted
the invitation to attend a great revival taking place at the Union
Baptist church. On that Sunday night, he accepted the Lord as his
personal savior at the tender age of thirteen.
Having had no family church affiliation, it would take two years
before he finally established his roots in the Church of God in
Christ. He joined Mount Carmel COGIC, a small store front mission,
under the leadership of the late Elder Jacob Meeks. While there,
he served as Youth Leader, Choir Director, and helped lead the youth
in holding a monthly “Joy Night” service. It was during
this time, of committed service; Pastor Scott was called to the
ministry.
At the age of twenty, Pastor Scott was ordained as an Elder by the
late Bishop O.T. Jones, Sr.; Jurisdictional Prelate of the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania.
In April of 1970, he married the beautiful Carol
Hines and moved to Reading, Pa, where he continued to develop
in ministry under the late Elder James McCracken, Pastor of Saint
James Chapel COGIC. Elder Scott used his gifts and talents there
to preach, teach, and sing.
In 1974, Elder Scott along with his wife and young family, were
lead to join the Shiloh COGIC, pastored by his father in law, the
late Carl E. Hines, Jr. After a year of faithfully commuting from
Reading, Pa. to Harrisburg, Pa.; Elder Scott was appointed Assistant
Pastor of a growing ministry. Pastor Hines took him (Scott) under
his wings, and began to nurture, train, and pour into him powerful
principles of leadership. This spiritual father and son mentoring
relationship would continue for the next 31 years.
Over the years as a part of Pastor Hines succession training, Elder
Scott was given various duties and responsibilities, such as head
of the local church ministerium, teaching the new member discipleship,
spiritual maturity and spiritual gift classes. He served as a member
of the church board and was a member of the building committee for
the existing sanctuary completed in October, 1999. In addition,
he was given numerous opportunities to preach Sunday mornings, and
teach Friday nights.
On Sunday January 15, 2006 God saw fit to carry Pastor Hines from
labor to reward after 41 years of faithful service pastoring the
people of Shiloh.
On November 26, 2006 the Jurisdictional Prelate of the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania, Bishop Benjamin Ravanel, Sr. made the appointment
of Elder Kevin L. Scott as Pastor of the Shiloh COGIC. Under his
leadership the ministry is experiencing continuous growth, as God
fulfills a promise of faithfulness.
Pastor Scott has enhanced the organizational structure of the church
and unveiled the churches first purpose statement:”We exist
to glorify God by doing everything possible to help every person
possible, pursue Christ more completely and consistently.”
He places strong emphasis upon team work, and uses the credo of
“No bench warmers and no wall flowers.” Reinforcing
the tenants of 1Corinthians, Chapter 12, all members are necessary
and important to the body of Christ.
Pastor Scott understands that he is merely the undershepard of the
Lord’s ministry. He shared with those entrusted to him what
God revealed would be his greatest challenge relative to pastoring;
“To stay out of His (God’s) way.” He preaches
and teaches messages of life, hope, and completeness through the
word of God. He is dedicated to the Great Commission, making disciples
and helping each person find and live out their God given destiny.
Pastor Scott is a retired Postmaster of the United States Postal
Service. He retired in 2003, after a distinguished thirty-four year
career, twenty-four as Postmaster. He was a member of the National
League of Postmasters organization and served as an officer on the
state level, a delegate to both the state and national conventions.
In addition, he received an appointment as the Deputy Director of
the Eastern Region on the national level. Prior to his appointment
as Postmaster he worked as an Equal Employment Opportunity Counselor
for four years.
Pastor Scott is married for thirty-nine years, to the lovely lady
he still affectionately refers to as his bride, Carol. From their
union, God gifted them with three beautiful daughters; Erica; married
to Dr. Jesse Rawls Jr. Shevelle; married to Fernando Lyons. Jacquelyn;
married to Brian Anderson, professional barber. In addition, they
are blessed with eleven grandchildren, seven granddaughters, and
four grandsons.
